In May 2019, the Department of History hosted the annual conference of the Society for the History of Technology (GTG) on the framework topic "Technology and Politics" (program). In the Garden Hall of Karlsruhe Castle, about 100 historians of technology from Germany, Austria and Switzerland followed the technical presentations including a ScienceSlam. The keynote address was given by John Kriege (Atlanta) on "Controlling the transnational circulation of sensitive technology in Cold War America, and beyond." Selected lectures were published in 2020 in a special issue of the journal "Technikgeschichte" edited by Marcus Popplow.
