Ernst Bernhardt, September 12, 1911

The student exhibition "Strassbourg - Colmar, Munich" is supported by the KIT Department of History. In Schützenstraße 37, Karlsruhe, from December 8 to 16, 2022, works by Ernst Bernhardt, Johann Faulhaber, Johannes Friedrich and Emma H. from the creative phases in the so-called "Heil- und Pflegeanstalt" Wiesloch (todayPZN Wiesloch) between 1905 - 1927 will be rediscovered and exhibited for the first time. In their diversity, the artworks are united by a common materiality. The materials used and traces of psychiatric practice refer to the contexts in which they were created. As sources of a history of psychiatric experience, the self-testimonies enable an indirect path to inclusion and participation. The exhibition contributed to
the perception and appreciation of the artists and their work. These apparent distances of "outside" and "inside" are softened. Categories like "Outsider-Art" are questioned and put up for discussion.
